Our hearts are breaking. You all remember my friend Lena? My antiquing buddy. She’s been battling Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma for about 7 years now. Treatments would beat it back, but it was never completely gone until this past spring. After those treatments, there wasn’t a sign of it anywhere. We rejoiced. Over the summer she started running a fever and just felt awful. She’d hoped it was some infection she couldn’t shake, but the latest PET scan showed a recurrence and the disease was causing the fever. So it was back on Chemo. The one she responded so well with. But it’s become evident the treatment is not working this time. The cancer is ripping right through it. That was the last treatment they had to try on her.
Hospice has been called in. She’s tired and is at peace and is ready to go home. Her fist grandchild is due to make her appearance in October and Lena so badly wants to be here when she’s is born. To see her and hold her. She told me last night that her biggest sadness is not getting to play with her granddaughter as she grows up.
We’re all still praying for the miracle of Divine, spontaneous healing, but she seems to have accepted her fate and her request is that we pray for God’s peace for her.

Oh Wanda, So sorry to hear of your friend’s illness. I had an Aunt named Lena, and every time you mention your friend in your blog it made me think of Auntie Lena. She used to make me tapioca pudding from scratch & always had these little mints in tins that I can’t recall the name of…I add my prayers to yours that your friend will have the strength to face this time of her life, and also an added prayer that she will see her grandchild born. My heart aches with yours…I have lost so many family & friends in the last few years, so I know how much the hurt can be. Just be there for Lena, she needs you & your love. Be strong, Wanda.
