Not much happenin’ here

This is the obligatory post of the weekend finds. Sorry I’m not more interesting these days. Friday was pretty much a dud. I don’t usually shop the local yard sales. It seems the last few years it’s the same people, same yards and same crap, rinse and repeat, year after year. No, I prefer the unknown of the Big City. But I don’t generally do regular yard sales there, either. Friday, there was nothing going locally, but there was a [...]

Are you wearin’ the green?

Happy St. Patty’s Day! So, are ya? A wearin’ thuh green? I am. Wonder what my English, Scottish and German ancestors are thinking? Maybe they’re OK with it since the sweater does have pills under the arms and is a little too snug and too short to cover the tummy. Top that with a very bad hair day. Yeah, I look real good today. I kinda hope no one comes in. Now, that’s not good! Here’s the last of the [...]

More of last weekend’s stuff

Little shelves from “Mother’s”. A thick wooden box, a basket shaped napkin holder and a little dog key holder. ~~~~~ A bagful of heater bricks. Nine, I think. From “Mother’s”. The wooden, stick on letters were from the thrift store. ~~~~~ Antique medicine cabinet from “Mother’s”. Wonder who that is riding by in the red car? ~~~~~ Hooked rug from an estate sale. ~~~~~ Watering cans and well buckets from “Mother’s” ~~~~~ Are those honeycombs? I first thought they were [...]

It’s feast time!

In this business I’m in, whether we call it antiques, junk or junque, we’re either in feast or famine. Last week was feast week. I absolutely have not stopped in a week and I still have piles of stuff to be priced and placed in the shop. It all started last Wednesday with a phone call from my second cousin once removed. She said her sister-in-law was selling her mother’s furniture and I should give her a call to go [...]

I’m back

First, I want to thank everyone for your kind words and understanding. We’re still very sad, of course, but pretty much back to normal. Which means back to our regular routine of work. Werrrrrrrk, werk-werk-werk-werk-werk-werk-werk-werk…. Werrrrk-werk-werk-werk… You get the picture. I’ve realized I need two days off in a row if I ever want to get the house picked up, dusted and vacuumed, kitchen and bathrooms cleaned and clothes washed – ever again. I’m not complaining, because I don’t like [...]

My Heart Hurts

We had a harrowing weekend. Our cat was murdered. Brutally. By a dog. We don’t adopt animals casually. I might, but Ricky doesn’t. We’d had a little peek-a-poo for nearly 14 years and when she drowned in our pool three months after my mother died in 1999, we were devastated. Thought we’d never get over it and vowed never have another pet. But not quite a year later a yellow tabby cat started hanging around the house. Ricky was adamant. [...]

OK, OK. I’ve been nudged. This week’s been wild. Well, wild is exaggerating a bit. Busy. We’ll go with busy. I still haven’t had enough time to put last week’s bounty away. Work, work, work. It hasn’t helped that this week Mr. Doom and Gloom has been by three times trying (and succeeding) to sell me things, Creepy Child Molester Guy stopped in and Guy Who Used To Be A Warlock But Has Been Called To Preach For the Lord [...]

What does your name mean?

I’ve never liked my name. In the second grade, I tried to change it to my middle name, which shall remain, ahem, nameless. It’s a lot better, but still not one I would have willingly chosen. Momma was having none of that. If she’d wanted my middle name to be my first name, she’d have made it my first name! I questioned my mother, Mildred Louise, why she chose Wanda. Turns out she hated her name, too and wanted me [...]

Sheep and Dutch Kids

Y’all know I don’t sell everything I get, don’t you? I have collections, too. I just don’t have time anymore to play with them like I used to. That makes me sad some days. There are days I regret ever opening a shop. I’m such a homebody. But usually once I’m at the shop, I’m pretty content. I took these too dark pictures of my sheep and Dutch kids collection recently and thought I’d share. That oval picture was from [...]

This’ll Make You Sick

One day last week a young lady came into the shop and said she had a box of her grandmother’s things. Her grandmother had gone to the nursing home and the three daughters got what they wanted and carted everything else off to GoodWill. This precious young girl managed to rescue one box and was it worth anything at all and did I want it? Now, before you get too excited, the small Hull vases have some serious damage, but [...]
